Went to see Indy 4 the other day, more for 'completeness' of the series, rather than actual 'want'.

Although I tried to get myself into the 80s cheesy mindset, I couldn't, and this movie was a real let down. People did applaud at the end, but to me the older Indy movies were a lot better.

On Friday, there was another crane accident in NY. The second one in the space of a few months.

The first accident happened near my work and this second one, just a few blocks from my apartment.

I went to have a look-see on the weekend. While a lot of the debris had been cleaned up there was still a heavy police and ambulance presence and the destruction of the side of the building was still evident.

The building on the left is where the damage is. It's hard to see from my pic as it was taken on my iPhone, but the New York Times has clearer pics here:

I'm so pissed off with the American tipping culture right now.

It totally gives people the wrong incentive and attitude toward work.

I'm at the freakin' hairdresser trying to get my hair fixed. I did the
chop from shoulder length to disastrous bob last weekend and am back
in trying to get them to fix what is quite possibly the worst haircut
      ever.

The guy who originally cut it is not here, and because they all work
on commission/tips no one else will cut it for me. Screw them. They
want to charge me 20 dollars in tips to fix their mess. This is one of
the worst managed business I've ever come across.

This is the 4th time I've been in here today. I've been told to come
back when the manager is in and she was meant to be in 5 hours ago.
They told me they would call me when she's in but nothing.

For anyone reading this here is my revenge. The hairdressers is called
Blondie. Its on the corner of 86th street and 1st avenue in Manhattan.
If you want a decent haircut this is NOT the place you want to visit.
This place sucks. I will never come back here and I will tell
      everybody that this place sucks.

I can't believe I've wasted my whole day on this or the 10 mins it's
taken to write this post on my blackberry. Screw them. I'm so pissed
      off right now.

The last few weeks have been busy so I never got around to posting something on San Francisco. I had the opportunity to go to there for work but got to do a little sight seeing as well which was nice. Here's a pictorial of my travels:

the famous cable cars. these tram like things have no engine/motor in them. instead they are pulled along by an underground cable. each cable car is 'driven' by a grip man who manually chooses when to 'grip' the underground cable to move the vehicle or release the grip to let it coast along.

      30 minutes

I have 30 minutes to wait so thought I may as well update this blog. Why do I have 30 minutes to wait? Well let me start at the beginning...

A couple of days ago as I was taking my morning shower I noticed the water seemed to be circling the drain at a slightly slower pace than usual. I knew this was bound to happen eventually but by looking at the rate of drainage I figured I'd have a week before I'd have to do anything about it.

Yesterday, the pace was even slower but nothing to worry about - a little water left over in the tub after I'd finished but it went down pretty quickly after.

This morning however, the drain decided to completely die on me and suddenly I found myself ankle deep in water (most of the showers here are in baths so it's not as bad as it sounds). Rushing off to work I left it to drain out during the day.

Throughout the day I completely forgot about it, or the idea that I should call my super to go unblock it, but when I got home, memories came flooding back and I anxiously peered into the bath ... and darn it, the water level hadn't moved. Unconvinced, I inspected the water level more closely (having made a mental note where it was at when I left this morning!), but nope, it hadn't moved at all! What? that's impossible? How could the drain deteriorate so quickly?

A couple of minutes were then spent cursing while I searched the bathroom cupboard for the plunger. The previous owner had left it behind, but for good reason. It was pretty beat up and didn't have good suction at all. But with few other options I discarded my socks, rolled up my pants and with a grimace stepped into the dirty, cold bath water. eeew.

After 5 minutes of hard "plunging" (is that a word?) I inspected the water line again. Nothing. Nada. No movement. Instead I was left with pieces of black slimy gunk now floating in the water. I swore a lot. I don't care if I wake the neighbours I thought, I'm going to do more plunging till it clears. It was about 11:45pm at this stage as I'd got home late tonight.

After another 5 minutes of plunging I looked at the water line again. I think maybe it moved 2 millimeters but that's it. Shit. By this stage it was past midnight. Knowing I had to get the water out somehow, I turned to my trusty cooking pot from IKEA and started scooping water from the bath into the toilet. It was a workout (which I probably needed anyway as I quit the gym today - haha! but that's another story).

Once I had gotten most of the water out, I tried the plunger again. More black slimy gunk but the drain wasn't moving.

The only way to clear it was to get some Draino, but what's open at this hour? There was only one thing to do....

      It was scooter time.

I jumped on my trusty steed and sped down the streets trying to find a store that was open. It's actually quite fun scootering late at night. There's no one around to try and avoid so you can go pretty fast. Eventually I found a 24 hr Duane Reade and picked up the biggest bottle of Draino I could find.

So now I've poured it down the drain and am just waiting for it to work its magic. It's been about 1/2 an hour so will go look. Please, please let it have worked. Otherwise I'm in a worse off position. Can't plunger anymore cos I'll plunger all the chemical/bleach/whatever it's made off back up and it could spray into my face.

      Fingers crossed... stay tuned.

New York is full of weirdos. I used to think riding the tube in London
was a freakshow sometimes but its definitely worse in New York.

I've seen so many weirdos today the phrase "where the $@€% am I?" has
come to mind several times already.

I just got back from the gym. But don't let that fool you. I HATE the gym with a passion. I am actually trying to quit. I don't see the point of riding an exercise bike inside when I can ride my real bike outside, especially come summer when it's warmer and the daylight hours are longer. I took my real bike out for a spin on the weekend (on the bike path) and it was the best feeling ever. I rode north along the East River and into Harlem which was kind of interesting. No pictures unfortunately - I couldn't stop riding/get off my bike as the area was full of derelicts. It's amazing how quickly the scenery can change from one neighborhood to the next. Trust me, I rode very fast.

ok and this is COMPLETELY off topic, jumping from Harlem to this...but I almost died when I saw this promotional pic for the upcoming XF movie. Call me a loser I don't care.
