Have just got back from the airport, having said goodbye to another good friend. Tammy left tonight to head back to South Africa as her visa is soon to run out. What an emotionally draining few days.

i actually took friday off work this week so tammy and i could hang out. it was a bloody awesome day. we went to a massage parlour and got a 1 hour swedish massage. my god it was brilliant. felt so relaxed afterwards. just heaven. you know i've never really gotten into all the beauty therapy stuff, but i could certainly get used to having regular massages. we also hung out in the steam room for a bit afterward, but had to leave after about 5 min cos we were cooking. all i kept thinking about was the story of the frog in the beaker. don't know if you've heard this one before, but apparently if you chuck a frog in a beaker of boiling water it will immediately jump out; but if you put it in a beaker of cold water and slowly heat it to boiling, it will stay in there and just cook till it dies. that's how i felt. i couldn't trust myself to know if i was too hot.

next we went to camden to try and find a tattoo parlour (before you get worried mum, no i didn't get another tattoo although i was very tempted!). tammy got her first tatt to mark her departure from london - a black chinese dragon on her back.

in the tattoo parlour - tammy looking slightly anxious!!

after that it was on to Gigalum for some farewell drinks. it's pretty cool cos the bar staff know us now. they made sure we got an area with a couch and got all our drinks right - even tammy's which is bizarre - a double jack daniels and lime cordial.

it was nahla's 31st party the last weekend. had a fantastic time. got to catch up with a few people i hadn't seen in a while, like aviva and duncan, steve and brears... had such a great time. they played lots of music i hadn't heard in a while... like michael jackson.. man, the guy was a legend.. maybe not now cos he's just so damn weird, but his older tunes are pretty damn sweet. actually come to think of it, he hasn't really had any 'new' tunes lately. all of his recent albums are compilations. anyway.. steve and tammy ended up staying that night over cos they missed the last tube and then tammy and i went for a delicious 'hangover cure' roast the next day. :) :)

now.. before all of you think all i do is party, let me assure you i'm working my butt off at work at the moment! it's just not interesting to write about. but ok, if you really want to know - let's see.. i worked till about 9pm the other night and did about 2.5hrs work at home on saturday, (before i went out to nahla's party) - so see, it's basically work hard play hard..

anyway, back to nahla's party.. here are some more photos:

      Brief update of last week...

ok i looked back on my last 'massive update' and it doesn't seem so massive. in a desperate attempt to get this blog up to date i'm going to do a quick update of last week.

      monday 6th
after work meet up with Tammy at Gigalum Bar - as i think i've mentioned, this is my new fave bar and it's also great cos it's so close to home. Corey joined us later and we stayed there till it shut at 11pm (yes most bars in london shut at this time). we weren't 'kicked out' but were encouraged to leave. hehe! Coz was stayed at my place for the week as he was in between houses.

      tues 7th
went to check out a new flat near clapham junction. it was actually on Gowrie Rd, the same road i lived on with Saul. The people seemed really nice - 1 other aussie and 2 kiwis but the room was wayyy to small and there was no where for me to put my bike.

      wed 8th
had a nice relaxing night. met up with corey after work for a few quiet ones at The Nightingale, a pub literally at the end of our street. it is your typical old english pub - very smoky, no music and kind of felt mini in size - like 3/4 of what normal pubs should be. got into the Biltong that night. i reckon we went through about 5 packets. Biltong's one of the great things i've discovered here. its a bit like Jerky, ie dried meat, but a little more moist and less chewy. good stuff. goes really well with a few beers.

      Thurs 9th
met andy, nahla and steve at the Southwark Tavern for a few drinks. told you i had a busy week - out almost every night! this little pub is a gem. i booked a little booth in its downstairs section which was a lot more private. great food too!! we had this soup which kind of tasted like heinz tomato soup, but they'd put this lump of goats cheese or some sort of cheese in there and it just tasted awesome! so simple, but so goooood :) then nahla convinced me to get a taxi home and ended up leaving her phone in the taxi! lucky for her some honest guy found it and returned it to her the next day! that's pretty much unheard of really..

      friday 10th
felt slightly hungover at work from the night before so i the morning wasn't exactly productive. but at lunch i rode my bike over to Precis (my old workplace) and had an awesome beer battered greasy fatty fish and chip lunch with Andy and Nahla. That sorted me out and i was certainly a lot more productive when i got back to work that afternoon!

saul and corey came round at night and we ended up watching Lord of War on dvd. was good to finally have a night in, although there was still plenty of booze involved.

      Saturday 11th
Bought the Logitech v270 bluetooth mouse for my Macbook. this little mouse is wicked. it doesn't require a 'receiver' cos it's bluetooth so it doesn't take up any of the usb ports on my puter. brilliant. it also has an on/off switch to conserve battery power. pretty nifty little thing. would definitely recommend it to any laptop users out there. can i just say, logitech are going sick with mice at the moment - they have the best range, for gaming to laser precision mice. go logitech!

      Media_httpphotos1blog_sfyej

and to finish off, at night we went to The Artesian Well for Anne Marie's bday, but i think i'll have to follow that up in another post as there are quite a few pics from night i'd like to upload but it's really late here at the mo and i need to hit the sack as have a client meeting first thing tomorrow.

      back in cold, dark london

long time no blog. we still haven't reconnected our internet connection at home. it's really frustrating. you don't realise how much you depend on the net until you don't have it. how did we cope 50 years ago? now there's a scary thought.

so i'm back in london. what's it like being back? it's bloody cold. and not just any cold, but bone chilling cold. luckily the sun's still shining and it's not windy and rainy...yet. it is however getting dark at 4:30pm, and that is just WRONG! screw london winters. screw the weather and lack of sunlight. ok enough complaining - i had an interesting conversation with Sean last night about the concept of expectation. he said that we expect london winters to be cold, so why complain? in other words we knew it was going to be freezing but still made a conscious decision to come and live here - it's not some hidden clause so we should just learn to live with it. that will be my mantra for this winter.

anyway i'm yet to write about my travels in hong kong. let me start by saying at first i was totally frustrated and annoyed that everyone assumed i could speak chinese. i suppose this shouldn't come as a surprise, but it was frustrating nonetheless. i'll post this in a number of parts as there's a lot to tell and no one reads large chunks of texts...well maybe except mum. hi mum!!!! :)

Here's a few photos to start off with:

      Free Hugs Campaign

my bro told me about this. it has totally inspired me and i have a new favourite song. the bit in the vid where it turns from black & white to colour and he hugs the little ol lady and she touches his face makes me cry.

      hugs are underrated

Here's the write up on YouTube - it started in Sydney, Australia...

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whos sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person...

      I love Australia

man i love australia! i popped into the shops yesterday to get myself sorted with a pre-paid mobile number and it was just so nice to be able to walk around and shop without people pushing and shoving and bumping into you left right and centre.

i went into the Optus store i used to work in and it's all changed. well not the store itself but the people - didn't know anyone at all! but i did find out that Luke, who i used to work with, was just in there shopping with his girlfriend and that i just missed him! so i called him straight away and we met up for a bit. haven't seen him for ages! so much has changed. he's getting married in december. wow! we're going to try and organise drinks later in the week.

hmm what else.. i checked out mum and dad's (new) house for the first time and dad's new plasma screen - pretty swish! had lunch with bri, crystal, mum and dad at Jackie's restaurant and then chinese for dinner again. lots of foooood. mum has stocked up on all sorts of things (ice cream, biscuits, crisps) and keeps trying to feed me - hehehe! :) ahh i love australia.

Hi everyone! have arrived safely in australia. flew out Friday night, got here Sunday morning - now that's just wrong! it's such a bloody long flight. was so bored. watched about half a dozen movies including The Sentinel, The Devil Wears Prada and An Inconvenient Truth. let me just say i have a new found respect for Al Gore. the man is a legend. my hat goes off to him for his latest effort (one of many) to raise awareness of the threat that is global warming.
