I bought the biggest, fattest, warmest, cosiest jacket for winter - this North Face 'Arctic' parka - its awesome...BUT...

      Media_httpblogpressw1_idjaj

... last night when I was chomping into a late night greasy medium rare cheese burger I killed my coat. It's now got crap ALL down the front. It looks like I threw up on it. Marie ---> epic fail. So annoyed with myself. Arggggghhh.

Lovely dinner at Italian restaurant, Beppe's, last night with LL. Nice ambience (they have a fireplace) and delicious food and drink made it a great night, oh and of course fantastic company too :)

      Would highly recommend it.

It is so cold here at the moment. Colder than last year I feel. Went shopping with a friend yesterday and we had to keep ducking in and out of stores just to keep warm.

Am off to buy a proper full length winter coat today as can't take it anymore!

      Thought for the new year

Here's my one and only resolution for the new year. That's right, there are no lists this time just this one general principle.

This is all I'm swearing by in 2010:

      Media_httpblogpressw1_wvdqb

And the way I'm interpreting this is not to avoid situations but rather if something isn't right, or making me happy or my gut has a bad feeling about it, its time to move on!

Cheers to 2010! It's going to be a good year. I can feel it.

I haven't eaten these babies in about 8 yrs! Maybe more!

My friend from Australia brought me over a packet and boy did they go
      down a treat :)

The only thing though, and am wondering if it's just me, is...have the
      'rings' themselves got smaller??

      Xmas at OJs

Christmas at OJs for year 2 in NYC :)
Highlight of the night was an intense Kris Kringle session. Not your usual KK, but KK OJ Style, which involved a complex set of rules by which you can steal one anothers presents. See rules below. If you can understand them, you get a present ;)

How to Play Kris Kringle (OJ Style)
Each person to bring a gift approx. $15 value and wrapped up
There will be a basket or something to place your gift when you enter the apt
You'll each be given a number which represents the order in which you select the gift

On the first turn, the person assigned with #1 picks out a gift and opens it so all can see what it is. On the second turn, the person assigned with #2 gets the choice of “stealing” #1’s unwrapped gift or choosing a wrapped one from the pile. If #2 steals #1’s gift, then #1 must choose and open a wrapped gift.

As subsequent players take their turns, they either select a new gift or take any already opened gift from any of the other players. Have any player who has a gift taken away either choose a new gift or take an already-opened gift from another player.

The game continues with the following rules:

If someone steals your gift, you can steal someone else’s gift or choose and open a wrapped one.

Continue until everyone has had a turn for a gift. A turn is ended when an unopened gift has been opened.

A gift can only be “stolen” once during a turn. If a gift is taken from someone during one round, she cannot take it back during that same round. She can, however, take it back in a later round if she is in a position to select a gift.

A gift cannot be immediately stolen back from the player who just stole it.

Once a gift has 3 “owners”, the 3rd owner of a gift gets to keep it – it is retired and can’t be stolen again.

The gift exchange ends when the last wrapped gift is chosen and opened.
After the last turn, the person who started (since she didn’t get a chance at the beginning) can put back the gift and “steal” a gift according to the rules. This starts the gift exchange again (following the above rules) and ends when someone chooses or is forced to take the gift given up by the person with #1.

Dinner at La Luchas with Geet in the Village. What you see in the background is actually a wall projection of a Lucha Libre fight. Very cool place. Good tachos.

      'Up in the Air'...

...that's how I felt after I watched this movie. I don't get the hype behind it... I think it's one of the worst movies I've seen this year.

There were some funny moments but it's probably more because I was watching it with friends, and things are always funnier with other people about. The other thing about having friends around is that it's harder to walk out half way. Otherwise I would have.

I think the most annoying thing about this movie was that it seemed forced. I felt its purpose was to give people hope to start over, to seize new opportunities (after you've been fired from your job) but it was too in your face about it and so cliched (I could tell you what was about to happen 10 min before it happened).

The movie also didn't have a good pace. If there are beats to every scene, it missed them all.

      Rating: 1 out of 5.

I'm off work this week so am mucking around with my laptops. I'm turning the white Macbook into a Media Centre. That means it will be permanently hooked up to my TV. All my media will then run through iTunes which I can then control from my iPhone via the Remote App. Yeah!

First snow of the season. Need to get me some gumboots, or wellies as they're known here... it's hard walking through snow in Converse, even if they are 8-ups.
