      Airport security

Omg. Was really afraid I was going to lose my iphone. That of course would be crap in normal circumstances but ULTRA crap if happened here in India. I've been relying on it so much and would be totally screwed without it.

I'm at the airport waiting for my flight to Delhi. Basically I went through airport security and here they make you put your bag on the conveyor belt then you go somewhere else to get body scanned.

Problem is, I put my bag through but when I was getting scanned I had my phone on me. It beeped so they told me to go back and put it though the conveyor belt. So my phone was put on a tray by itself and I had to go back to get scanned. This took a couple of minutes and I was sure when I went back for my phone that someone would have taken it. So sure.

But by some stroke of luck, despite all the craziness around my phone was just sitting on the table. I swear anyone could have knicked it. Phew phew phew.

Lesson learned. Always put phone INSIDE bag before going through airport security.

      Mumbai madness

At my usual 'refuge' spot, Cafe Coffee Day. I say 'refuge' because it, besides my hotel, is one of the only places to get away from all the madness.

Doesn't stop people from starring at you though if you're a foreigner. People here have a habit of starring and I find it quite annoying. Obviously am going to stand out more than most, so people will notice but they don't notice discretely.

The worst is on the beach
(back in Goa). The guys will stare blantantly at the girls in bikinis and even take photos of them. So rude!

Watching a Bollywood flick on TV. It's hilarious!

High drama, big music, sudden close-ups, fake tears, long pauses, random outbursts into song and dance...combined this with low production values and you get: PURE CHEESE.

Can't really understand the 'plot' as it's all in Hindi with no subtitles but am having a good laugh nonetheless!

      Have landed in Mumbai.

Actually really glad to have left Palolem, Goa. As nice as it is I'm done staying in a beach hut. Had to have the most skanky 'shower' today. Almost puked from the smell. It was actually an outdoor toilet and I 'showered' using the tap there. Ughh. Feel disgusting and have been bitten by tons of insects. Ughh again.

Anyway enough complaining. It's still an awesome location which I'm glad to have visited when I did. I think at the rate they appear to making beach huts the place will be overrun by tourists in a few years. Actually you could argue it already is.

      A few parting images:

Stuck in traffic in Goa, India. My taxi driver just opened a plastic bag and took out a pair of white trousers and placed it over his black jeans.

      Me: "what are you DOING?"
      Taxi driver: "im cold"
      Me: "what? are you serious"
Taxi driver: "actually there are cops about so white pants makes look more like uniform. You understand?"

Yeah I understand you dodgy ******. So I'm not in an offical taxi. Great.

Check it out. You can just make out the white pants resting on top of the black.

Currently in Goa...Palolem to be exact, and it's bloody amazing. Like out of a movie. If you've ever seen 'The Beach', it's like that, except set in India not Thailand.

I have 3 days here in Goa. And although it looks small on the map I still had to make a choice - explore the north, or the south.

North is where most of the partying happens and from what I hear most of the tourists go. But I was looking for something more chilled and relaxed so I headed south to Palolem. It's 2hrs by taxi from the airport so a lot fewer tourists.

I'd definitely recommend this place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. It's got a couple of bars which are 24hrs but most close around 11pm. It's more about relaxing and is very, very beautiful. I love it.

I'm staying at a place called Cozy Nook in a beach hut. My front yard is literally the beach :) It's considered premium here but at c.US$55 a night still very affordable.

...a Cafe Coffee Day! Haha that's not actually their slogan. I just thought it sounded incredibly cheesy.

This is the place I keep going to for my morning coffee. It's considered high end in India but is sort of like a Starbucks chain.

Having a relaxing day today after a long hectic day yesterday on the tour. Just chilling, doing laundry and drinking coffee before I head to the airport later this afternoon. Off to Goa today. Hopefully I can find accomodation when I get there. Haven't booked anything yet.

      Bangalore - tours pt2

Am getting severely pissed off by tourism in Bangalore. When I showed up to the second tour pick up point they said there was no tour as 'not enough people'. Again.

I then spent 1/2hr trying to organize a private tour which cost 3 times as much but they're so dodgy here I kept having to ask things like - does the driver speak English, do commentry, will he wait for me outside each destination, what's his cell phone, will he call my phone as it's a US number, is tax included? First they told me to pay the driver directly then they asked me to pay upfront. I said I'd pay at the end. I also said I wanted to meet the driver before I agreed to the tour at all.

Seriously I was getting majorly pissed off. And to make matters worse the 'customer servive' rep kept smirking. Great way to promote tourism.

Then after all the faffing it turned out that 4 other people showed up and now the tour is back on. This is a relief as it feels more 'official' but I'm still majorly pissed. Mostly by the dodginess.

Waiting to board now. Will report back later.

Rough start to the day. The tour I booked last night didn't seem to be running when I showed up. Apparently that happens a lot here.

Wandered around for a bit trying to find a other tour company but to no avail so headed back to my friends place where we managed to sort something out. Now seeking 'refuge' at Cafe Coffee Day, a huge Starbucks-like chain here, killing time before my new tour starts.
