Starting first full day in Bangalore. Arrived here yesterday and didn't feel good most of the day so took it pretty easy.

Caught up on sleep and did a bit of a walk around town at night. There are tonnes of stray dogs here - most look pretty rough - roaming around and scavenging in the rubbish for food (along with the homeless). I saw a couple of 'cute' ones last night. As I started to take their picture however they started to viciously growl at me. Rather than risking rabies I moved on pretty quickly.

I'm staying with a friend of a friend here which is really cool. Getting to see a bit more of the everyday life as opposed to just being a tourist (although going on a city tourist tour tomorrow). Today we're off to see her work and visit a couple of other friends...

      Kuwait stopover

Time goes slowly when you're on vacation. I feel like there's so much you can squeeze into just a couple of hours. I think it's because you're constantly moving, especially if you're on your own.

Wanted to fill you in on my brief but exciting stop over in Kuwait. I really wasn't planning on doing anything here except wait out the 5 1/2 hr transit at the airport and perhaps do a bit of window shopping. But when we arrived, there were signs saying 'Visa applications this way'. Turned out I was able to get a transit visa which allowed me to leave the airport for a few hours. My friend, who was traveling on an Indian passport, wasn't so lucky however. Apparently there are a lot of Indians in Kuwait so Visas approvals for Indians are a lot stricter and need to be applied for well in advance.

So while my friend waited at the airport I slipped out to explore Kuwait! I've got to say traveling with the iPhone does make things a whole lot easier (and safer). I knew where I was at all times and could even use the phone to estimate journey times. iPhones rock!

The biggest struggle turned out getting a taxi that would take me where I wanted to go. Not because it was some remote area but because they couldn't understand English.

I actually ended up bailing from one cab after he had agreed to take me. Was sitting in the back seat and figured out he couldn't understand me so I got the hell
out. Trust your gut I reckon. And my gut was telling me to flee!

Ended up finding a really nice driver who spoke very good English. And he even 'accompanied' me up the Kuwait Towers -we had popcorn and coffee up there - and told me all about his 4 children and life in Kuwait. In addition to seeing the Towers the taxi driver also showed me the Shacq shopping mall and some of the markets, then using his local 'powers' fast tracked me through the airport security line. Really nice guy!

      Delhi first impressions

Finally arrived in Delhi and am absolutely spent! Slept a couple of hours during the day but know I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight.

It's been awesome so far. As soon as I got out from the airport I smelt dust, petrol and rubber. It was all hustle and bustle and there were a line of green and yellow cabs waiting in the dirt outside the airport.

I learnt these cabs, some of which looked like small mini vans, are made by Suzuki. Specifically, they're called Maruti Suzukis. Very bare bones, narrow, don't take up a lot of space on road...which is good because similar to Egypt, there are no lane markings on the road!

My friend and I caught one of these to her parent house where we will crash tonight. Will try to post pics when I can.

It's also interesting to see the rickshaws. You have the traditional ones but also 'auto rickshaws' which now have a Motor in then.

Foodwise I feel like I've been eating non stop. Lots to eat on the plane and just finished a lovely home cooked meal...

Have tried the Starbucks equivalent here - Cafe Coffee Day - and was surprised they don't do skim milk (or toned milk as they call it here). The guy behind the counter was laughing at me. Also
discovered the larger your purchase the bigger the size of the receipt! Weird status thing.

Will have to write about my Kuwait stopover another time. In the meantime india is kicking ass!

Ughhhh. Been sick for a over a week now. Went to doc today because I thought I was going to cough my lungs out. Turns out I have acute bronchitis, but the bacterial kind so have got a bunch of antibiotics to treat it. Feel like crap, so hope they kick in fast.

On a slightly brighter note, I received this as a present the other day. A stuffed elephant! I love it. Trying to figure out a name for it. I want to name it Al Gore but the name needs to be approved by the person who gave it to me.

Another awesome night at Spin Table Tennis club new york!

Am hearing more and more good things about this place. Here's a pic from it's opening night. It's owned by Susan Sarandon (you can make her out on the right hand side of the pic. Pic credits from the link below).

You don't need to be a member to play. I generally just go on Wednesdays as there's a tournament on and it's $10 entry and you can practice in between.

Ever heard of Afro Peruvian Jazz? Yeah me either. But it exists! And it is good.

Visited Tutuma for a friends bday on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. The venue had a very homely feel to it.

Turns out the group that plays there was recently on tour in South America and invited fans to come oin them on the road. One couple who went were so inspired that they opened up this restaurant/venue to showcase the band's music.

Great idea and great place. One of the few places to go and hear jazz without a cover. They also serve classic Peruvian cocktails. Would recommend!

It's not that great a photo but it was a great dinner! Went over to
French's place for a lovely home cooked meal, wine, and some civilized
conversation. Perfect way to wrap up the weekend.

Seen a couple of big movies recently. Would highly, highly recommend District 9. By far my favourite movie of the year. Haven't raved about a movie like this for so long. Go see it!

On the other hand, saw Surrogates last night and was hugely disappointed. Typical Bruce Willis flick with ol' Brucey getting beat up a little so he could walk around all tough with fake cuts and blood. At one point when his robot arm got ripped off and he got to sport a shot gun one-handed Terminator-style. See it if you're hungover and have nothing better to do.
