      White Water Rafting!

As I mentioned in previous blog posts, we went white water rafting down the Hudson last weekend! It was the first time I'd been so didn't really know what to expect but it was amazing!!!! I'd definitely do it again. There were 5 levels of difficulty, 5 being the hardest, and we did a level 2 and 3, so it was a good place to start.

We drove upstate New York to Indian Lake, which is in the Adirondack Park, hired a chalet and had 3 days of fun, sun and relaxation, not to mention a sh** load of eating. I think I'm still recovering but it was just what I needed.

I've been going to this Japanese bar a lot recently and it's now become a must stop on the 'NG tour of New York'. Last week after Tuck Shop we visited it again briefly.

The walls of the place are covered either in graffiti or old sake labels like this. Very cool.

Apart from very tasty entrees (aka 'main course' for those reading in Australia) they also have some tasty (and cheap) appetizers. Edamame has become a favorite of mine and of course we had to get OJ's favorite...$1 Shrimp sticks. The shrimp sticks can been seen below disguised as cigarettes. Freda, who is a graphic designer, cleverly photoshopped some smoke in!

Made it back from white water rafting at Indian Lake, New York in one piece. The journey back took 5 1/2 hours but it was worth it.

A little bruised, and very achy but had a fantastic time! Will post more once I sort through photos.

How desperate do we look? There's no cell phone coverage where we are
(Indian Lake) but we found a bakery in town which had wifi. The bakery
is closed btw. Just stealing their wifi...

The heat in NYC right now is unbearable. I've never been this hot and humid. Perhaps I've forgotten how bad it got last summer but it seems now I cannot walk 2 blocks without starting to feel disgusting.

      Tuck Shop

Australian's take the meat pie for granted. This simple yet delicious meal is usually reduced to junk, consumed at a footy match (with lots of beer) or in miniature form at a birthday party. In essence it's something we don't give much thought to. It's just a snack, food on the run, something to chow down on...unless you haven't had a proper one in 5 1/2 years...

Last night the Aussie gang visited Tuck Shop in the East Village. Just like the good ol' tuck shop at school this served Aussie meat pies, sausage rolls, lamingtons and wait for it... Vanilla slice!!! Yesss!

I had seriously been thinking about this pie the whole day. And it didn't disappoint. I swear it was better than the ones back home and for a moment there was just this silence. No one spoke. We were all too busy chowing down on our pies. Good, good stuff. Too bad they were out of vanilla slice.

      Ripped?

I can't help feel that I just got ripped somehow.

As I was waiting for the elevator in my building I hear this frantic knocking on the security glass doors of my building. Maybe some guy forgot his key? So I go to let him in and he says "sorry I don't live here but my car has run out of gas down the street and I have no money to fill it. I swear I'm not a bum or on drugs. My wife's in the car. I can give you my wedding ring and licence and I'll repay you".

So I went out and said where's your car? And he pointed to something but it was dark and I couldn't see. During this time someone else in my building saw what was happening and came out also. We both thought the guy was a bit weird but I gave him 5 bucks and the other guy gave him a couple too. He said he needed 12 for a can but we didn't give more.

I swear, thinking back I got ripped. No sane person is going to take a wedding ring or licence in order that they get paid back that 5 bucks. Plus the whole "my wife is in the car" story was pathetic. And I don't know why I didn't think of this but why couldn't he just go get cash from an ATM?

So I guess worst case scenario I got ripped and very best case scenario I helped a guy out. But really, I think I just got ripped.

      Ramen, ramen, ramen!

Been eating a lot more Japanese since being in New York. Japanese is BIG here. Last year I went through a sushi phase - spicy tuna rolls were a twice sometimes three times a week occurance.

Have also been to more upscale Japanese restaurants (iron chef standard) like Morimoto and Budakhan (took my brother to Morimoto when he came to visit!) but recently it's been all about the ramen...who knew 2 min noodle-type soup could have tasted so good? Well actually I think they brew the broth for something like 10hrs, and it shows! Damn tasty.

Last night we checked out Ippudo in the East Village. Although according to my Japanese friend the setting was a bit Americanized the food was authentic and extremely delicious. Ramen was good but dare I say the pork buns were the food highlight of my night!

In a feeble attempt to encourage myself to blog more (and while on the go) I've downloaded an app called BlogPress. So far I'm pretty impressed. It's simple and intuitive and let's you download more than one photo per post which I've not seen any other iPhone blog app do. This could be the start of a long and wonderful relationship. I'm actually thinking of ditching Twitter (gasp!) - well maybe just reducing my (sometimes pointless) tweets in exchange for posting shorter (more meaningful) posts on this blog.

      What do you think?

If there seems to be a theme to my posts lately that's because there is. I'm obsessed with wanting a dog right now. Especially after seeing photos and videos of my brothers dog, Ginger.

Went to the pet store the other day and saw this cute little Wheaton Terrier. It bothered me though that the 'salesman' treated it like an object. I was appalled to hear it was on 'sale'.
