...well actually we're back now, that was last weekend, but here are some highlights:

      - almost missing our flight because the taxi to the airport took twice as long due to traffic
      - convincing the airport staff to give us our boarding pass even though 'check-in' time was over
      - my bag getting searched at security (delaying us further). They threw out my toothpaste.
      - making the flight only to arrive in Miami to be told there were severe weather conditions/thunderstorms/flooding
      - being told by our airport taxi driver that the flat rate of $33 to our hotel no longer applied because roads were closed/flooded and we had to take the long way round.
      - being told by our airport taxi driver that we may need to catch a 'boat' to our hotel
      - getting ripped off by our airport taxi driver because the roads were no longer flooded and he had now run the meter up to $60.
      - negotiating with the airport taxi driver to pay $45 instead.
      - getting to hotel only to find out they had overbooked and we had only 1 of the 2 rooms we booked.
      - having the group split up - I stayed in one hotel the others in another (luckily they were right next door to each other, but we spent a good 1.5hrs trying to sort it out
      - getting lots of free mojitos while trying to sort the hotel out
      - being told the next night that the other hotel was now overbooked and having to move AGAIN
      - drinking mojitos the size of your head (see pic below)
      - finding a leopard skin shoe on the side of the road, together with beer bottle
      - seeing people swim in the ocean wearing pieces of bling
      - having reasonably good weather, despite threats of more thunderstorms and flooding
      - seeing more leopard skin and double D (triple D if they make that) boobies and G sized butts
      - eating a fake fillet mignon at a Cuban restaurant. Really it was a fake cheap cut of meat.
      - seeing a scantily leather clad boobie busting vixen walk casually into the cheap Cuban restaurant and casually sit down for a meal.
      - generally laughing at others. 'at' not 'with'.
      - seeing guys with busting biceps standing on street corners trying to look super hot (not)
      - going to the Everglades and hearing Olivia scream about baby alligators.

As you can see, all in all a good trip! A couple more pics...

Have been spending a lot of time at Central Park recently. We usually have a bit of a picnic and then some low-key ball games (cricket, footy, badminton) in between the eating and lazying around. It's the best way to spend a weekend.

Not sure what we'd do without C-Park! Without it New York would really just be a concrete city and that would be ughhhh.

Here are a couple of interesting facts about the park.

Central Park has 25 million visitors each year.
It covers 843 acres, has 7 bodies of water, 21 playgrounds, 36 bridges and 51 sculptures.
The park has extensive walking and bike tracks and also...
      2 ice skating rinks
      a Zoo
      and an outdoor theatre.

      OMG I heart Central Park!

And just to help put things in perspective, here are a few arial photographs.

Look how much of Manhattan the park takes up!

      Rooftop BBQ

Even though there are thunderstorms forecast for Tues, it still feels like Summer is upon us. Yesterday was a perfect example. Mid 20s and a light breeze, which lasted well into the night. It allowed us to enjoy a rooftop BBQ at Baptiste and Emilie's place. We had a clear night sky, with great views of the Empire State Building, good tunes and good friends. I didn't want the night to end.

Miss having the ol' barbie. It reminded me of times in London when we used to buy disposable BBQs for 4 pounds and cook things on the side of the street. Just goes to show what you need to do when you don't have a backyard - go streetside or rooftop. Of course, either way nothing beats Dad's barbies back home.

Also had a bit of fun that night with light and photography. These were all taken on my Canon compact with 1 sec exposure together with flash. Basically take the photo then move the camera around slowly to capture the trails of light. The flash will take care of your main subjects, making sure they're not blur.

A night out at the Maritime Hotel for Chris's birthday. A bunch of smart looking people if I do say so myself. When we got there, there was a pitcher filled with Mojitos. 'Nuff said.

Had a lovely Saturday afternoon in Astoria (in Queens) with the Aussie crew. You'll notice there is one additional crew member, little Chloe, who's pictured in the center of the collage. Chloe is absolutely adorable and was extremely well behaved both at the Pakistani restaurant we went to for lunch and the noisy beer garden afterward!

      Free chicken?

Apparently Oprah has bought the whole of America KFC. There is some
coupon you can print out to get your free fatty chicken. That's free
fatty chicken, not fat free chicken.

Thanks Oprah for driving up the cost of the US healthcare system.
Let's increase cholesterol and high blood pressure people. Even if the
new chicken is grilled people are still going to stuff their faces
with fries and biscuits and probably some traditional fatty KFC while
redeeming their free grilled chicken coupon.

      Wolverine

I haven't been truly excited about a movie in ages, but was dying to see Wolverine. It didn't disappoint. I LOVED it. Thought they did a great job at weaving in various story lines from the comics but also taking a few liberties with the movie version, ie changing a few character relationships to make a better one-time story. The pace was good, a large portion of the backstory told during the start credits, it had some awesome fight scenes and the ending lead well into how the mutants were saved by Xavier. Well done Wolverine cast and crew!
