After a few hectic weeks, I'm finally settled in my new apartment (apart from needing some curtains to cover the huge window next to my bed - see pic 2 below). On one hand, because of the economy, it's an excellent time to move. You get an excellent deal on rent (relatively speaking of course - we all know NY prices are extortionate compared to Oz). But on the other hand, moving sucks because of the weather. It's freezing at the moment and it's not easy carting things around in the snow. Even though I didn't have that much to move, I was still surprised by the amount of crap I've accumulated over the years. So I hired these two Chinese guys to come and do all the heavy lifting. It was this dodgy little cash in hand 'company' I heard about through WoM, but I've got to say, although they were slightly rough with some things, nothing broke and they got it all done in pretty good time - 3.5hrs from start to finish - excluding packing since I did that all myself.

So now I'm pretty much settled. I LOVE my new place. It is slightly more expensive, but completely worth it. I'm in a cooler area (closer to all the places I like to hang out), my apartment is more modern, I have laundry IN my building (no more trips to the laundromat), my building is QUIET, my shower is awesome (water pressure and temperature are consistent and no blockages - yet), the apartment is much brighter, and the kitchen much bigger. While people who know me may laugh at this last point, the fact that the kitchen is bigger, will hopefully inspire me to make good on one of my new years resolutions ie to learn to cook. Yes, scoff, laugh it up, but it may just happen. In the past, I for one blamed my tools, so now the tools are all there, and if I can't do this then...well...

So I started tonight, by stocking up my fridge a little more. It's not completely full, but has more than OJ in it which is a start.

Stay tuned...
