Australian's take the meat pie for granted. This simple yet delicious meal is usually reduced to junk, consumed at a footy match (with lots of beer) or in miniature form at a birthday party. In essence it's something we don't give much thought to. It's just a snack, food on the run, something to chow down on...unless you haven't had a proper one in 5 1/2 years... Last night the Aussie gang visited Tuck Shop in the East Village. Just like the good ol' tuck shop at school this served Aussie meat pies, sausage rolls, lamingtons and wait for it... Vanilla slice!!! Yesss! I had seriously been thinking about this pie the whole day. And it didn't disappoint. I swear it was better than the ones back home and for a moment there was just this silence. No one spoke. We were all too busy chowing down on our pies. Good, good stuff. Too bad they were out of vanilla slice.
