I've been harping on about wanting to get a calculator watch for a while now...you know those old skool Casio ones? I never had one at the time the were actually out, sometime during the 80s I think, but thought it would be cool to have one now. Anyway, my friend knows this and sent me this note today:

"bugger the calculator watch ;)

LG are releasing a 3G watch phone. On a geek scale of 1 to 10 this is probably an 9. It's got an iPhone-like full colour touch screen and can play MP3s. At first, I thought 'give me a break', but on scouting around the net a little further I came across this video and it looks pretty awesome.

It's got voice recognition and an in-built front camera so you can do video calls. hmmm. The only thing is, while reports are saying it's 'only 84g' that's still pretty heavy for a watch.

Ironically my brother emailed me today to tell me he'd just bought a $1000 Tissot T-Touch Expert Titanium watch.

This got me thinking...

While a 3G watch phone would be cool, would it ever really take, and would it ever replace the analogue watch? Even being a nerd and pro technology, I'm not sure anything will ever replace the good ol' cog and wheel timepieces.

Thoughts?
